Gary Shaw

Gary Shaw works in the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in Victoria, Australia, where he is leading multicultural education and global citizenship initiatives designed to contribute to inclusive and safe school cultures and promote active citizenship and internationalize education. In his role at the Department he is also a member of an Australian Research Council project team working with schools to identify what impedes and facilitates intercultural understanding in schools.

Gary Shaw has extensive experience in primary, secondary and tertiary education settings and been involved in regional, state, national and international initiatives and projects covering social justice, community capacity building, violence prevention and anti-bullying and school improvement.

He is currently involved in consultations for the new Australian curriculum for civics and citizenship education and the general capabilities of ethical behavior and intercultural understanding.

Gary has worked as a Research fellow at Australian Youth Research Centre at the University of Melbourne that included studies into the use of restorative practices .in Victorian schools.

Outside Australia Gary has applied his background and experience to the field of peace education and conflict resolution education and has worked internationally with education authorities and non-government organisations and presented at conferences in the United States, Cyprus, Kenya, South Korea, Israel/Palestine, Costa Rica, Montenegro and Ukraine.
